At the end of the Hoornderweg, just before the beach begins, you’ll find Paal 9. A beach pavilion with sea views, a large terrace tucked in the dunes, and a warm, inviting interior. The view grabs you instantly — you look around and immediately understand why people linger here.
Inside it’s bright and spacious, outside you sit sheltered from the wind with a view over one of Texel’s widest beaches. The atmosphere is relaxed, the interaction easy — exactly what you’d hope for in a place like this.
The menu is broad and well thought-out
From breakfast to dinner: the menu is clear and has something for everyone. There’s also a wide selection for vegetarians and vegans — not as an afterthought, but as a real part of the offering. Most ingredients come from local farmers and producers. And that shows in the dishes: fresh, recognisable and prepared with care.
Sustainable beach pavilion
Paal 9 runs entirely on electricity, is heated with a pellet stove and separates its waste properly. Small choices make the difference: no plastic milk cups or wrapped biscuits, honey is freely available and milk is added in the kitchen or served separately if requested. This way, nothing ends up blowing onto the beach that doesn’t belong there. The ‘Plastic-Free Terrace’ sign is made from plastic collected along the North Holland coastline — a visible result of how things are done here.
Movement on the beach
Next to the pavilion you’ll find Surf Center Paal 9. You can take surf or SUP lessons, or simply rent gear and head out onto the water yourself. Children can join beach camps, and groups can book clinics or private lessons. If you’re in the mood for something active, you’ll have plenty of options here.

You’ll stay longer than planned
Maybe you came for just a coffee, breakfast or lunch. But chances are you’ll end up staying longer. Not because you planned to — but because time seems to slow down. It’s comfortable, the view keeps pulling you in, and everything just flows.
